A RACE WITH ARCTIC ICE
To reach Archangel, ships had to go 350 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Navigation was open only a few months. The steamer Seattle is rushing to unload her cargo, on Oct. 21, 1918, before the ice blocks her passage home.
 
THE HOME OF AMERICANS IN RUSSIA
The olive drab (O. D.) of the United States Army soon became a familiar sight in Archangel's principal streets. In the background is seen the city's famous cathedral, the domes and spires of which glitter with gold leaf.
