ROW UPON ROW
Wounded lay along the road in rows, many blood-soaked and unattended, until ambulances came up under cover of darkness and took back those who were alive. This is Ambulance Corps No. 13. The hillside is full of soldiers in caves.
 
DEATH WAS VERY NEAR
One can never describe such an experience. The "T" on the forehead indicates that the patient has had tetanus serum. Gangrene frequently developed and wounds were often full of maggots before the injured were picked up.
