HE SLEPT THE SLEEP OF THE JUST
An American ambulance driver deep in the land of dreams after having been on the road, caring for the wounded, for more than fourteen hours without a let-up. The photograph was taken near Samogneux, Meuse, France, Oct. 27, 1918.

Here the Germans made vigorous resistance. In the distance are seen the town and the valley as they appeared to enemy machine gunners dug in at this point. The 78th Div. captured this stronghold after severe casualties, Oct. 25.
