Geared Locomotives - Willamette

Willamette geared locomotives were produced by Willamette Iron & Steel Works
of Portland, Oregon. A total of 33, two- and three-truck geared locomotives were
produced by them between the years of 1922 and 1929. These locomotives used
the same basic design as the Lima Shay locomotive. Lima’s patents had expired
which allowed the Willamette Iron & Steel Works enter the market. These geared
locomotives had many design improvements over the other geared locomotives
then being offered.
