COLEMAN -- Winnie Cathey McQueen, age 91, long-time
resident of Coleman, died Saturday, March 13, 2004 in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in Stevens
Funeral Home Chapel with David Ross Cathey officiating. Burial will follow
in the Brown Ranch Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Susian Winnieford Cathey on November 21,
1912 in Loss Creek, Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of the late Carlin
and Florence Sampson Cathey. She grew up in Coleman County and graduated
from Coleman High School. She was married to Earl E. McQueen and he
preceded her in death in 1944. Winnie received her B.A. degree from Mary
Hardin Baylor College and her Master's from Texas Tech. She was a teacher
in elementary school and later a Home Economics teacher in high school.
She taught at Mukewater, Burkett, Santa Anna (two different times), Post
and Ballinger. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Good Neighbor
Extension Homemakers and the Elm Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Delbert
E. and Sandy McQueen of Lawton, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Kurt McQueen of
Lawton, Oklahoma and Karl McQueen of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers,
Roy E. Cathey of Sanuarita, Arizona and David Ross Cathey of Lindale,
Texas.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and two
brothers.
Family visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Monday at Stevens Funeral Home.
