James E. (Jim) Burchfield, 68, long time resident of the Kirk Community, died Saturday night in a Waco hospital, following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Mart. Rev. I. Henry Brown, Rev. Earl Vanderford and Rev. W.C. Beasley officiated with burial in Kirk cemetery. Littlepage in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burchfield was born April 15, 1894, in Mississippi, but had lived in the Kirk community since a very small child. He had farmed in that community for 50 years. He was a surveyor for the Triple AAA Co. He was a civic leader in both the community and county for many years, and was a deacon and leader in the Kirk Baptist Church. He had served many central Texas churches as an evangelistic singer. He also was secretary for the Kirk Cemetery Association for a number of years. For the past years he had been the census enumerator for the Mart Independent School District.
Mr Burchfield was a frequent visitor in Mart and always had a friendly greeting for his many friends here. He was a fine Christian gentleman and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
Survivors are his wife; one son, James E. Burchfield Jr. of Waco; two sisters, Mrs. E.M. Bruce of Mart and Mrs. Lillie Pitts of Dallas, and two grandchildren.
