 IRWIN, VELMA Barton

Mrs. Velma Barton Irwin, 92, of Marlin died Tuesday in a Marlin nursing home. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 1997, at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin with Dr. John Jenkins officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston with the Rev. John Weigandt officiating. Mrs. Irwin was born April 8, 1905, in the McClanahan community of Falls County to parents W.T. and Fatima Walton Barton. She married John L. Irwin on Dec. 16, 1923, in Marlin, and he preceded her in death on March 20, 1981. She was a Houston resident for many years, returning to Marlin in 1975. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marlin. Mrs. Irwin was also preceded in death by a daughter, Merle Purdum in 1948; a sister, Vera Ramby; and three brothers, David, James, and Cecil Barton. She is survived by a son, Thomas B. Irwin and wife Dolores of Sugar Land; sisters, Mac Belle Roberts of Marlin and Emma Rhea of Waco; grandchildren, Todd Irwin and wife Jill of Concord, Connie Harris and husband Jay of Sugar Land, Jay Irwin and wife Mini of Greensboro, N.C, and Gael Dahse and husband Byron of Kerrville; and nine great-grandchildren.
