Evergreen Cemetery is located at 500 Altic Street, south of Harrisburg Boulevard. 1894 - present. 15 acres; approx. 6,000 graves.

Originally anglo, community is now predominately Hispanic with current burials mostly Hispanic. Originally touted as "the" cemetery of the day, many interesting and important people buried here, including many Confederate and a few Union veterans, several Spanish-American War veterans and those who fought in later wars and conflicts. 

Partial transcriptions, with incomplete and conflicting information, appear on several Internet sites and in printed form.  Ownership under Evergreen Friends, a 501(c)(30 organization responsible for extensive restoration. Texas State Historical Marker. Current day to day care and burials conducted by Santana Funeral Homes. Some records damaged and lost to fire.

At the time,  the Evergreen Friends preparing a two-volume history and transcription of the records for publication as a fund-raising project.
