Submitted by: Victor Smith Deed: William and Sarah Campbell to Richard and John Roberts, 16 May 1811/19 October 1819 This Indenture made this 16th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven Between William Campbell & Sarah his wife of the county of Washington & State of Virginia of the one part and Richard Roberts and John Roberts of the same county & state of the other part, Witnesseth, That whereas a suit was heretofore instituted by the said Richard Roberts and John Roberts in the Superior Court of Chancery holden at Staunton against William Campbell Arthur Campbell & Margaret Campbell the object of which was to compel the said William Campbell to convey a certain tract or parcel of land to the plaintiffs on the North fork of Holstein River & whereas afterwards, to wit, on the twenty fourth day of November in the year one thousand eight hundred then the said suit came on for a final hearing where upon it was decreed that the said William Campbell should convey the said land according to certain metes & bounds designated in the said decree to the Plaintiffs with special warranty against himself & those claiming under him: Now these presents Witness that in pursuance of said decree and for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar in hand paid by the said Richard & John to the said William he the said William Campbell hath bargained & sold and by these presents doth bargain & sell unto the said Richard Roberts and John Roberts all that track or parcel of land lying on the North fork of Holstein River adjoining the lands of John Campbell and William Campbell and bounded as follows Beginning at a small hiccory designated in the survey or Report A. thence South Thirty five degrees West eighty five poles to a sycamore marked B. at Byrds ford thence up the meanders of the said North fork passing the mouth of Lourel creek to a small walnut marked C thence North 60 degrees West one hundred & forty six poles to two white oaks on a ridge thence North fifteen degrees West fifty three poles to a gum thence South Seventy degrees West one hundred and fifty two poles to the Beginning. To have and To Hold the said tract or parcel of land with the appurtenances to the said Richards Roberts & John Roberts their heirs forever, And the said William Campbell for himself and his heirs covenants with the said Richard & John Roberts and their heirs that he will warrant and defend the said tract or parcel of land with the appurtenances to the said Richard & John and their heirs against himself and all persons claiming under him. In Testimony whereof the said William and Sarah have hereunto set their hands & seals the day & year above written. Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of William Campbell James Taylor, Thomas Tate jr. Sarah Campbell At a Court held for Washington County the 19th day of October 1819. This Indenture of bargain & sale between William Campbell of the one part and Richard Roberts and John Roberts of the other part was acknowledged in court by the said William Campbell as his act and deed and ordered to be recorded. Richard and John Roberts are heirs to the land per Billingsley Roberts Will. This land is in what is now Smyth County, Virginia. It is located near Roberts Chapel in Rich Valley.
