Deed: John and Katie Roberts to W. W. Brickly, 9 February 1884

This Deed made this 9th day of February in the Year 1884, between John Roberts
and Katie Roberts his wife of the first part and W. W. Brickly of the second part.
Witnesseth: that the party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of
Thirty dollars, the receipt of which is therby acknowledged, doth grant, bargain and
sell unto the party of the second part the following piece or parcel of land lying in
Smyth County on the waters of the North fork of Holston River, and bounded as
follows, viz: Beginning at a stake corner to Lottie Roberts' land on the north side of
the road, thence N.641/4&E.93/4  poles to a stake at the corner of John Roberts'
garden; thence with his line N.11 W.14 poles to a rock near the west side of the
branch; thence S.64 1/2 W121/2 poles to a stake near an apple bush in Lottie
Roberts' line; thence with her line S.221/2 E.14 poles to the beginning. The party of
the first part warrant the title to the said piece or parcel of land against the claims of
all parties whomso ever. Witness the following signatures and seals.

Virginia - Smyth County to wit:
     I, E. L. Roberts a Notary Public in and for the State and county aforsaid, do
certify that John Roberts whose name is signed to the within deed having date on
the 9th day of February 1884, personally appeared before me in my County
aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act. And I further certify that Katie
Roberts wife of the said John Roberts whose name is signed to the deed bearing
date on the 9th Feb. 1884 after hearing the said deed fully explained to her by me
privily and apart from her said husband she acknowledged the same to be her act
and declared that she had willingly signed the same, and did not wish to retract it.
Given under my hand this 10 day of May 1886.
