Deed: W. J. and Amanda J. Roberts to W. N. Clear, 1 September 1896

This Deed made this the 1st day of  Sept. 1896, between W. J. Roberts and Amanda
J. his wife,  and W. N. Clear all of the County of Smyth and State of Virginia,
Witnessth: that for and in consideration of the Sum of One Hundred dollars , cash in
hand, paid, the said Roberts deed bargain sell and convey, to the said W. N. Clear
the following described tract of land, on the South Side of Brushey Mountain being
past of land brought of M. L. Barns, by survey as follows: Beginning at a black pine
near top of  s spur, James Allison corner, N.6. W.39 poles to a stone in center of
hollow; N.38. W.301/2 poles to a large solid stone in hollow; N.7.W.120 poles to
top of the mountain; to two chestnut oaks on Spruce in top of mountain, Esh
Osborn corner; S.47 E 96 poles to a small oak 1/2 pole south east of branch in point
of spur between two hollows; S.21 W.37 poles to a small hickory, 2 poles west of
branch on hill side; South 31 1/2 poles, to west end of a large flat stone one rod
west of branch; S.361/2 E.27 poles to a burnt sided birch on west bank of branch,
on J. W. Taylor line; S.5-41/2 W.25 poles to 2 ..................planted on top of ridge,
R. F. Clear corner; S.N-E.30 poles to stone planted center of low gap; S.491/2
W.65 poles with O. G. Clear line, to N.W. corner of a large stone vss west bank of
branch; N.191/2 E.58 poles to the beginning. Containing, ............  Fifth three Acres,
the title warranted generally as to the surface, and all minerals and mineral rights,
reserved to M. L. Barns as per deed to W. J. Roberts. Witness the following
signatures and seals, as of date above written.
