The Shenandoah National Park has always maintained they were never involved
with any of the evictions of our ancestors who once lived on what is now the
SNP. This is simply not true! In Darwin Lambert's Earth Man Story,
page 109-110, former SNP Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins "illuminates
portions of the [SNP] story" and I quote as follows: "-which reminds
me of a family I helped evict, the only forcible eviction after the park took
over". This was in 1936. It is indeed quite a story, which I cannot
reproduce at this time. I will however, write to Darwin Lambert to ask if he
would give his permission. Incidentally, this book was "Published in
cooperation with The National Park Service, U.S. Department of the
Interior". And also it was "Researched, written and published under
the auspices of Shenandoah Natural History Association, Inc., Bulletin #
6", as quoted from the Foreword Pages of same book. |
