Jessie Avery Twine, 89, of Salem, went to be with the Lord March 22, 2006 at Richfield Nursing Facility. She was a longtime member of High Street Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Continentals and The Daughters of Isis. Jessie retired from the Roanoke City school system. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Brady Twine; her parents, William C. and Cora Avery; and four sisters. Left to mourn her passing are her sister and brother-in-law, Bernice A. and Ernest Mowatt of Brooklyn, N.Y.; loving cousin, Marjorie Nelson (Ernest) of Detroit, Michigan; special nephew and wife, Roy and Clara Twine of Elliston, Va.; great-niece and caregiver, Joyce Boulware of Salem, Va.; close friends, Alphonzo and Sarah Holland; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Valley Funeral Service. Funeral will follow at 3 p.m. at Valley Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Burt Franks officiating. Interment will follow at First Baptist Church Cemetery, Elliston, Va. Arrangements by Valley Funeral Service, 1609 Peters Creek Rd., Roanoke, Va. 24017, 540-562-1182.
