DANA B. MORSE was listed as a farmer with the family of Joseph and Eliza (Morse) Morse in 1850 in Newfane VT. It has not been confirmed that they were his parents, though according to the 1840 census, Joseph had a male living in the household age 5-10. Further information from the book "Memorial of the Morses" (p. 111), states that Dana was actually the son of Willard Morse and his wife Polly Goodnow. Polly died in Nov 1834, and it appears that Dana was then taken in by his uncle Joseph who raised him.
In 1860, Dana, was living in Marlboro VT with Jonathan Ingraham and others and was a school teacher. Dana married Jonathan's daughter, Lucy, in 1860 and they moved to Hardin Co., Iowa sometime between 1865 and 1870. In 1870, Dana lived in Clay Twp., Hardin Co., Iowa; his occupation is hard to decipher. In 1880, they were living in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, although at the time of the census Dana was in the local jail. By 1900, Dana was a widower and living in Garner, Pottawattomie Co., Iowa and was working as a book keeper. By 1910, he has been remarried and is living in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie Co., Iowa and is still working as a book keeper.

The following census records show a possibility for her identity. In 1870, one Harriet Moulton of the right age, is a widow and living in Dover with her children, Ira and Hattie Moulton. According to the IGI, Hattie's father was EDWARD MOULTON. One Edward Moulton, born ca1835, was the son of L..G. [Francis G.?] and Mary Moulton of Dover. By 1880, Harriet had been remarried and was living in Dover with her husband SHUBAL B. METCALF, her children, Ira and Hattie Moulton, and Minnie and Charlie Metcalf. Shubal Metcalf was not found on the 1860 census, and is single on the 1870 census, living in Wilmington. By 1900, Harriet is again a widow and living with her son Ira Moulton in Newfane.
