BANKS

 

EDWARD BANKS, son of Edward and Polly (Field) Banks, was born 21 May 1809 in Windham, Windham Co., VT and died 5 Mar 1900, age 90-9-12 (Gs: New Cem Wr) (Westminster VR, age 90-9-14, injuries by accident, farmer, widower).

 
Edward married (1) HANNAH GALE on
20 Mar 1838.  Hannah, the dau of Jacob and Hannah (---) Gale, was born about 1816 and died 21 Apr 1854 (Gs: New Cem Wr).

 

Children of Edward and Hannah (Gale) Banks:

  1. Warren Edward Banks born 7 Feb 1839 in Windham, Windham Co., VT and died 25 Feb 1911; buried Prospect Hill Cemetery, Brattleboro, VT.   He married Sylvia A. Hall on 6 Apr 1865.  Sylvia, the daughter of Lewis and Mary A. (Rawson) Hall, was born 6 Apr 1839 in Dover VT and died 25 Sep 1926; buried Prospect Hill Cemetery, Brattleboro, VT.  Their son: i. Edwin Banks, was born 13 Feb 1866 in Westminster, Windham Co., VT and died 7 Mar 1866, x-x-22, congestion of the lung; buried Prospect Hill Cemetery, Brattleboro, VT.  Also buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Henry W. Banks, born 27 Jun 1880 and died 20 May 1892.
  2. Newton Banks born 5 Dec 1840 in Windham, Windham Co., VT and died 24 Feb 1842, age x-14-19 in Westminster, Windham Co., VT (Gs: New Cem Wr).
  3. Martha Maria Banks born 8 Feb 1842 in Windham, Windham Co., VT and died 1927 (Gs: New Cem Wr). 
  4. Sarah Augusta Banks born 9 Sep 1843 in Windham, Windham Co., VT and died 22 Jan 1864, age 20-4-13 in Westminster, Windham Co., VT (Gs: New Cem Wr) (Putney VR, died 23 Jan 1864, age 20).
  5. George Newton Banks born 10 Feb 1850 in Windham, Windham Co., VT (Gs: New Cem Wr) and died 26 Jan 1923 (Gs: New Cem Wr).  He married Lydia E. Morse on 10 Mar 1873, at Bellows Falls by Rev. C. P. Taplin, Bellows Falls. Lydia was born 25 Aug 1846 Westminster, Windham Co., VT and died 25 Sep 1926 (Gs: New Cemetery Wr).  Their daughter: Alice B. “Allie” Banks born 19 Jan 1874.  Lydia E. Morse married (1) Ithamar Richardson, born 2 Oct 1838 (Gs: New Cem Wr) and died 24 Sep 1870 (Gs: New Cem Wr).  In 1870, George, age 20, was a farm worker at the insane asylum in Brattleboro (Census).
  6. Charles Banks born circa 1854 and died 30 Jul 1854, age x-3-9, in Westminster, Windham Co., VT (Gs: New Cemetery Wr).
     

Edward Banks married (2) ANNA C. GAGE; divorced.  Anna C. Gage, the daughter of Royal and Anna (Tyler) Gage, was born about 1821 in St. Johnsbury VT and died 11 May 1897 in Westminster, Windham Co., VT, age 75-11-26, cerebral haemorhage, married (Westminster VR).  Ann C. Banks, age 59 b. VT, parents b. NH, divorced, dressmaker, living alone in Westminster (1880 Census, Film T9-1349, p. 542a).

  1. Bertha Louise Banks born 30 Jan 1860 Westminster and died 15 Jun 1863, age 3-3-15 (Gs: New Cem Wr, Mary B. Banks) (Gs: Old Cem Wr, on monument as Bertha Louise with mother). Mary Bertha, dau Edward (farmer) and Anne C. (Gage) Banks, died 15 Jun 1863, 3-4-15, at Bernardston MA, diphtheria, b. Wr (Westminster VR).
     

Edward Banks married (3) PHEBE P. (BOYNTON) BURNAP on 2 Jun 1873.  At Brattleboro by N. Mighill Pastor, Congregational Church, Brattleboro (Westminster VR).

  • In 1884, Edward's wife Ann listed as a widow in Gazetteer and Business Directory of Windham County, Vermont, 1724-1884. Hamilton Child, 1884, p 508, but in this same source an Edward Banks listed in the same residence as (son) George N. Banks in Brattleboro, VT. Edward listed as a laborer. (ibid, p 377)
