Tell the story of Kurn Hattin in your history. Though sordid, it is integral.

I am wondering if you have any further information on this family. Of particular interest is whether you have any evidence of the parents of your Levi S. Peck? Also, do you have his birthdate. What are your sources for these? I have thought that this the right family but so far have found no proof.

I have the following.

1. A list of the children of Uri PECK and Asenath POWERS that names a son Levi Peck from the History of Westminster by Fairbanks..

2. Birth dates of the children of Uri and Asenath from the IGI, including Levi S. Peck (However, these are not found in the Westminster VRs).

3. The marriage of a Levi S. Peck to Clarissa CHIPMAN in Westminster on 6 Dec 1812

Thank you so much for marriage date. Information I did not have...

You will find the genealogy of Levi S Peck here in the Ancestral File:

Also found this bit of information....Please let me know if this is helpful. I also have lots of pictures, but do not know if they are from your part of the country because they do not have any writing on them. Information may also be found at the Family Tree Maker site.

Joseph PHIPPEN, born 21 Apr. 1745, and wife Silence PAUL had 13 children. Two of the daughters married CROWELLS. Silence (Sally) married Sylvanus CROWELL on 2 May 1802 at Westminster VT. (Sally married 2nd, Silas Pratt) Polly married Lucius CROWELL about 1809. I have never found their marriage record.

Were Sylvanus and Lucius CROWELL brothers? I am a direct descendant of Polly PHIPPEN and Lucius CROWELL. I have never found out who the parents of Lucius were. Lucius and Polly lived for awhile in Eaton

Bush, (now Eatonville) Herkimer Co. NY. Their first 3 children were born there. (Nelson, Sylvanus, and John S.) They then moved to Angelica, Allegany Co. NY about 1817. Their children, Sanford, Angeline, Zilpha, Lucius C. and Henry S. were born there. Lucius was accidently killed about 1830 in Allegany Co. according to oldest son's obit. Polly married 2nd to Barney HART. Polly died 1867, at Allen, Allegany Co. NY. I have looked for the names of Lucius Crowells parents for several years.

Just getting started into genealogy. I am descended from Goodell family, last one living there was Abel GOODELL born in 1785. He was married to Elizabeth or Betsy NEWELL. I have run into a deadend wall with her line. I was hoping to find something on your site about her lineage. I hope to get the the New England states one of these days and stop into your lovely city.

Searching for LAMPHIER (various spellings) expecially Luke father of Henry Augustus. I have seen him referenced in various places in Vermont but everytime I get close he hides. "You can run; but you can never hide." (I hope)

Mr. Hoxsie is right. The story of Kurn Hattin does need to be told. My parents were house parents there for 10 years. Kurn Hattin does have an impact on the town of Westminster, at least it did when I lived there. The staff kids attended the local schools (Westminster Elemantary and Bellows Falls Union High) and a lot of the staff were part of the local church.

The kids that lived at Kurn Hattin deserve to be acknowledged. It may not be a pretty story, but none the less it does exist.
