ROBERT RAND

ROBERT RAND [parents unknown] born about 1750 [prob. in Mass.] and died 1828; buried W. Rutland VT.  According to Susan S. Boitz, Robert Rand was supposed to have had six brothers.

He married EMMA AVERILL/AVERY ("Emmie" & "Amy").  Emma5, the daughter of John4 (John3, William2, William1) and Mary (Phippen) Averill, was born in 1758 (AFG).  [One Amy Averill was born in 1757 at Topsfield MA and was baptized in Christ Church, Topsfield on 21 May 1757].

Rand is said to have been a tailor.  The Rands may have lived in Charlestown NH before moving to Westminster VT.  From Westminster, they removed to Northfield VT.  Revolutionary War Service: Sgt VT, Capt. Seelye's Co, 1781.  DAR #544449, Verna Rebers Rand.  Robert Rand was listed in the 1791 Census of Westminster, Windham Co., VT (2-2-6-0-0).

Children of Robert and Emma (Averill) Rand:

  1. BENJAMIN RAND born --teenth Jan 1775 Westminster (VR) (Boitz, 16 Jan 1775) and died 26 Apr 1843 Morristown; buried La Porte Cem, Morristown. He married (1) CYNTHIA ROBINSON on 15 Jul 1802, resided at Bridgewater VT.  He married (2) SARAH ROBINSON.  Sarah was born 3 Sep 1780 and died 8 Sep 1875.
  2. MOLLEY RAND born 10 Jul 1779 Westminster.
  3. LUCE RAND born 19 Jul 1781 Westminster.
  4. ROBERT RAND JR. born 26 Jul 1783 Westminster and died in 1848 age 65 in Jackson Co., West Virginia; will dated 26 Apr 1847.  He married MEHITABLE REED.  Mehitable ("Hettie"), the daughter of Artimas Reed, was born in 1786 in NH/VT and died 24 Jan 1873 in Onalaska, Lacrosse, Wisconsin. "Robert and Hettie started west but got sick so they remained in Brook Co WV for 8 yrs. Then moved to Jackson Co & lived there for 20 yrs where Robert died.  Hettie died at the home of ther daughter Lucy."  They had ten children, 9 of whom lived to a mature age. See below.
  5. EMMIE RAND born 25 Sep 1785 Westminster.CATHERINE RAND born 13 Aug 1787 Westminster.
  6. NEHEMIAH RAND (twin) born 14 Feb 1790 Westminster.
  7. BETSEY RAND (twin) born 14 Feb 1790 Westminster.  She married (1) _____ [name unknown] on 14 Sep 1808 Bridgewater VT.  She married (2) DAVID BUXTON or BURTON on 28 Feb 1819.
  8. ORPHA RAND born 12 May 1792 Westminster.  She married AYRES WOODWARD.
  9. JOHN RAND born 7 Nov 1794 Westminster.
  10. OLIVE RAND born 15 May 1797 Westminster.  She married ZACHARIAH BASSETT on 8 or 9 May 1814 Bridgewater VT.
  11. HIRAM RAND born 10 Nov 1799 Westminster.

LUCY RAND born 27 May 1816 and died 12 Nov 1906.  She married _____ BARNES on 24 Apr 1849.

JAMES BUCHANNAN RAND born 2 Oct 1822 Brooke, West Virginia.  He married ELIZABETH LATIMER on 9 Aug 1847 Jackson, West Virginia.

ROSANA A. RAND born ca1831 Morristown.  She married SPAULDING DLUEMA? on 3 Jul 1867 Stowe.

BENJAMIN A. RAND born ca1843 and died 1 Jun 1867; buried Methodist Cem, Barnard VT.

J. RAND married MARY LATIMORE on 22 Apr 1848 in West Virginia.
