Israel Sanderson [perhaps son of Ebenezer and Hannah (Whitney) Sanderson and brother of Hezekiah Sanderson of Westminster] was born 14 Dec 1754 in Sturbridge, Worcester Co., MA and died 1 Mar 1806 at Westminster, Windham Co., VT; gravestone not found in Westminster cemeteries.

Israel lived in Leicester MA, Rockingham VT, Putney VT and Westminster VT. They were living in Rockingham, Windham Co., VT during the 1791 census (1-2-2-0-0). His son, John, made an affadavit in 1853 stating that his father had lived in Westminster where his first two children were born and then had moved to Rockingham where the second two were born. He then moved back to Westminster.

Israel enlisted in the American Revolution; Ordl Sgt MA; Cpl MA, Capt. Hartshorn's Co. 1781. His widow received pension #W20043, MA Line.

Israel of Putney VT married RELIEF RICE of Northborough MA on 3 Nov 1784 at Northborough, Worcester Co., MA; int. 26 Sep 1784. She died 28 Feb 1840 in Townshend, Windham Co., VT, leaving only two children, Relief Gilson and John Sanderson. According to the NEH&GR, Relief was buried in the Sanders(on) Cemetery.

  1. RELIEF SANDERSON born ca1787 Westminster (age 66, 1853). She married JOHN GILSON, who died by 1853. Applied for pension benefits 28 Jan 1853 at Springfield VT. Resided Charlestown NH.
  2. ISRAEL SANDERSON born Westminster and died while serving in the US army. He left a widow (name unknown). His wife was perhaps Prudence, as Israel and Prudence Sanderson had a daughter Harriet Sanderson that died 18 Mar 1814 age 3 yrs and was buried in the Old Rockingham Cemetery. His widow married (2) EPHRAIM PUTNAM and lived in Charlestown NH.
  3. JOHN SANDERSON born ca1792 Rockingham VT (age 61, 1853). He made an affadavit on 7 Oct 1853 at Townshend, Windham Co., VT. Raised by Peter Evans (age 80) of Charlestown NH from age 11 to 21, at his mother's request.
  4. CYRUS SANDERSON born Rockingham VT and died many years before 1853.
