Langley
dock, about 1911, with streamer Fairhaven loading and unloading freight
and passengers. Famous old stern-wheeler ran from LaConner to Seattle
stopping at Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Langley, and Clinton. Fairhaven
had probably been converted into oil burner as cordwood racks has disappeared
from dock. Old buildings had also been removed and replaced by a
large warehouse. Boat time was one of the day's highlights, and sizable
crowds often gathered on the dock to take in the excitement, exchange gossip,
and visit until mail had been taken to the post office and distributed.
D. Spencer, early Langley settler who was mail man for many years, met
the boat with his wheelbarrow.
