Dorchester, Carl Mertens' Livestock (1927-1973)

Carl Mertens, livestock dealer started to work in 1927 with his father, Henry, in the buying and selling of livestock, and in 1934 they went into partnership. Carl has conducted the business as his own since 1955, upon his father's retirement. Buying dairy and beef cattle, calves, hogs and sheep from farmers as far away as Ashland, the animals are then shipped by semi-truck and trailer to Green Bay, Minneapolis or St. Paul from his shipping yards located at Dorchester and Medford.
