Wilding, Archie (1890? - 17 Jul 1903)

Archie Wilding, thirteen years of age, the son of Mrs. William Wilding of the town of Grant, Clark County, died Friday, July 17, of lockjaw, the result of a wound received July 4th at the hands of a boy companion with whom he was playing. The lads were having a sham battle and Archie was struck in the side by the paper wadding with which his playmate's gun was loaded. The wound appeared harmless, but tetanic poisoning set in causing lockjaw, death following soon. The funeral took place Sunday at the Ridge Church, Rev. Guy Campbell officiating. No death for many years has excited more sympathy. The mother is well nigh heart broken and the boy who caused the accident is grief stricken. This sad case should be a warning to boys in the careless use of firearms. Even firecrackers, and especially the toy pistols, are particularly dangerous in causing lockjaw and numerous deaths have occurred from their use since the Fourth of July.
