Brown, Lemont E. (17 Apr 1851 - 19 NOV 1903)

Lemont E. Brown died at his residence in this city (Neillsville, Clark County) on Thursday Nov. 19th, 1903. He had been in poor health for some months, but had been about as usual until Sunday evening previous to his death, when he was stricken with an attack of Bright's disease resulting in his death.

The funeral was held on Sunday at two o'clock and was conducted by the Masonic Lodge of this city, of which deceased was a member. Rev. Longenecker of the Congregational Church offered prayer. The singing was by the male quartet.

Mr. Brown was born at Benton, Me., April 17th, 1851. He came to Clark Co., Wis. in 1868 at the age of seventeen, and for a few years worked in the woods for lumbermen. He became superintendent for the John Paul Lumber Co. of La Crosse, and for many years successfully conducted their logging business on Black River. Later he went into partnership with G.D. Hosley, and they logged in Northern Wisconsin for several years. The business was profitable and Mr. Brown retired in comfortable circumstances. A few years since, he, in company with three others, purchased the Neillsville flouring mills, an interest in which he owned at the time of his death. He owned a good home in this city and other property in this county.

Deceased leaves a widow, Laura E. Brown, and the following brothers and sisters: Emma F. Robinson, sister, of this city, Henry Brown, brother, who lives on the home farm of the family near Waterville, Me., Mrs. Rose Wells, sister (the rest of my copy was cut off)
