Dudley, Philip S. (18 Jul 1839 - 1 Jan 1905)

While seated at the dinner table, in apparent good health, P.S. Dudley died very suddenly of heart failure on Sunday, Jan. 1, 1905.

Philip S. Dudley was one of the old residents of this city (Neillsville, Clark County). He was born in Middleburgh, N.Y., July 18, 1839, was married July 4, 1861, to Maria McArthur, at Darien, Wis. They moved to Neillsville in Nov. 1869, where they have since resided, Mr. Dudley engaging in the harness business during that time. He was possessed of a genial humor and had a fund of reminiscences and stories that were intensely interesting. It was one of the writer's pleasures to go into the back room in the old harness shop of an evening when it was growing too dark for work, and listen to some chapters of Neillsville history that perhaps will never be written. Only the day before his death he related some of these, stating incidentally that he had worked at harness making for 52 years.

He leaves a wife, and three adult children, Arthur E. Dudley of this city, Mrs. Ella Riley of St. Paul, and Mrs. Mabel Brokaw of Abbotsford; also two aged sisters, Mrs. Helena Pramer of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Mrs. Rebecca Bell of Highland Park, Tenn. The funeral was held at the Congregational Church Tuesday, Rev. G.W. Longenecker officiating.
