Black, Margaret (20 Sep 1833 - 13 Apr 1905)

Died, in the hospital, in the city of Chicago, Thursday, April 13, 1905, Mrs. Erwin Black, at the ripe age of 71 years, 6 months and 23 days.

Miss Margaret Ritchie was born in St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., on the 20th day of Sept., 1833. She came to Wisconsin in 1854 and settled in the town of Oakland, Jefferson Co. In 1857 she married Mr. Erwin Black and in 1868 they moved to Clark Co., near Neillsville, Wis., where they remained 16 years, they returned to Jefferson Co. in 1884 and settled in the village of Lake Mills, which was the home of the deceased to the day of her death. Her only daughter died in 1886, and her husband passed away in 1897.

Mrs. Black, familiarly known as Aunt Margaret, was a woman of earnest, honest convictions, with courage to express and defend them, and in accordance with which she delighted to live. She abhorred evil and hesitated not to rebuke it in the spirit of a true Christian, her heart ever aglow with a charity, which with her high sense of right gained for her a host of friends.
