Quam, Stanley P. (9 Augl 1917 - 19 May 2002)

Stanley P. Quam, 84, Neillsville, died on Sunday, May 19, 2002, at the Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville. There were no funeral services.

Stanley Phillip Quam was born on Aug. 9, 1917, in Chicago, to Lester C. and Sabina "Bonnie" (nee Campbell) Quam. He attended school in Chicago and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1937 and attended Navy Special Schools. Most of his duty in the Navy was stationed on the West Coast. He continued on through his career in aviation and was active in World War II. He did most of his overseas duty in the Pacific and the Orient. He married Dorothee Simpson on April 6, 1945, in Reno, Nev. They made their home at N.A.S. Alemeda, Calif., for seven years. While stationed there, he was part of the crew that broke the world record in speed and gas consumption for propelled-driven aircraft in 1951. Later, after being assigned to Japan, he was instrumental in establishing the first Cub Scout Troop there, also serving as Cub Master. Upon his retirement from the Navy in 1967, he worked for the experimental aircraft companies Plant 42 and Edwards Airforce Base as a quality control inspector. They later moved to Neillsville.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothee three grandchildren, James R. Quam, Rebecca M. Quam and Jennifer L. Quam-Johnston and two nieces. Preceding him in death were his two sons, Ronald Quam and Richard Quam and his sister, Bonnie Belle Quam-Brockett.

The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
