Burr, Emeline (30 Mar 1843 - 1 MAY 1906)

Mrs. John Burr died at her home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County) May 1, 1906, aged 63 years. Deceased was born in Green Co., Wis. and lived there all her life until coming to Neillsville two years ago. During her residence here she has made many friends among her neighbors. She leaves a husband and two daughters, Mrs. John Carter of Neillsville and Mrs. Chas. Ash, whose home is in Minnesota. The funeral will be held Friday at the Congregational Church.

(Follow on in 5/10/1906 Rep & Press) The funeral services of Mrs. John Burr were held at the Congregational Church, Friday, May 4th, at 2 o'clock There the last expressions of sympathy and sorrow were paid to one who was loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Emeline Burr was born March 30th, 1843 at York, Green Co., Wis.; and died at Neillsville, May 1st, 1906, at the age of 63 years, 1 month and 1 day. During nearly all of her life she has been a devoted servant of God.

In 1863, during her twentieth years, she became a Christian, was baptized and joined the Free Will Baptist Church at York. For 38 years she was a most faithful servant in this church. At the end of this time her family moved to Blanchardville, where she, her husband and a few others organized and maintained a United Brethren Church. On their removal to Neillsville they at once identified themselves with the Congregational Church.

The last sad rites were paid this estimable lady at the Congregational Church where the pastor, Rev. Albert Rice spoke upon the words of Phil. 1:21 "For me to live is Christ, to die is gain," saying these words were the expression of her life, and further upon the words of Ps. 116:27 "Return unto thy rest, O my soul." He said that this was the consummation of her life.

On March 15th, 1863 she was married to Mr. John Burr, with whom she spent 43 happy years. She leaves to follow her, her husband John Burr, two daughters, Mrs. John Carter and Mrs. Charles Ash, besides many other relations and friends.

Mrs. Burr was the oldest but one of ten children, all of whom survive her, but one brother who died in infancy. Five grandchildren also mourn her loss. Of her many relatives scattered far and near the following were the only ones present at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Ash and two daughters, Bessie E. and Pearl R.; Mr. and Mrs. John Carter, and three children, Clinton C, Burr C. and Theo E.; Mrs. Ada Benston, Mrs. Walter Caradine and son, Winford, and Mrs. Andrew Peterson.

We all feel a distinct loss, and extend our deepest sympathies to those in their sorrow.
