Woodward, William F. (1848? - 4 Aug 1908)

Wm. F. Woodward died at his home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County) Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1908, at three o’clock p.m. at the age of sixty years. He is survived by a widow, a son, Lester Woodward and a daughter Mayme Woodward, the present librarian, all of this city.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodward were married at Pleasant Prairie, Wis., in 1879. They came to Neillsville twenty-nine years ago, where their two children were born.

For twenty-five years, and until his health began to fail him a year or two ago, he was janitor at the court house, and during most of that time a deputy sheriff of this county. He was the collector for many of the fraternal insurance societies and for some years one of the grand trustees of the A.O.U.W. in Wisconsin.

Probably no man in the county had such a universal local acquaintance as Mr. Woodward. There were very few persons, indeed, in this city or this part of the county who had not a personal acquaintance with him, and there are but few who will be missed as he will be.

He has been in failing health for three or four years but his friends did not realize his serious condition until within the last few months. Mrs. Woodward took him to a specialist at Chicago a few weeks ago but it was found there no help for him. His family has the sympathy of the entire community.

Funeral services were held at the house last evening and the body was taken to Pleasant Prairie for burial last night, leaving on the midnight train.
