Welsh, John (5 Mar 1845 - 25 Augl 1908)

John Welsh died at his home at the south end of Hewett St. (Neillsville, Clark County), about noon Aug. 25, 1908, after a lingering illness from cancer of the stomach, from which he was a great sufferer.

Deceased was born at Peterboro, Canada, March 5, 1845. He came to Wisconsin in 1871, settling on land in the town of Washburn, where he cleared up a large farm, which he carried on successfully for twenty years, at the same time following the business of stock buying a part of the time. During his residence there he took a prominent part in the affairs of the town, for fifteen years being chairman. After moving to Neillsville her continued to buy stock, doing also considerable real estate business. He bought and equipped a fine farm in the town of York, but did not live on the farm himself.

Oct. 18, 1876, John Welsh was married to Catharine McGinnis, who survives him. To them were born three children, John who died in infancy, Mark E. who grew to manhood and died three years ago, and Richard who lives in Neillsville.

Mr. Welsh was a life long member of the Catholic Church. The funeral services will be Friday forenoon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in this city, Rev. Father Dorrenbach officiating.
