Butler, W. H. (25 Mar 1858 - 6 Jan 1909)

W. H. Butler, formerly of Granton, Clark County, died Jan. 6, 1909 of tuberculosis in Denver, Colo. Mr. Butler was born in Random Lake, Sheboygan Co., Wis. March 25, 1858, where he grew to manhood. Jun 3, 1884 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Dunigan, also of Sheboygan. They located at Unity, Marathon Co., Wis., where Mr. Butler was engaged in the lumber business. In 1890 they moved to Granton where he entered the mercantile and grain business. In May 1903 they moved to Menomonie where his wife died in September of the same year. The following October he entered into partnership with C. H. Bryan in the hardware business. In the spring of 1904, his health failing, he disposed of his interest and went to Denver in hopes the climate might be beneficial. His last moments were peaceful, he being conscious until a few minutes before the end. He had the faculty of making friends in whatever community he lived. The remains were brought to Menomonie and laid beside those of his wife in the Catholic cemetery.
