Haugen, Thomas P. (14 Oct 1849 - 10 Apr 1909)

Thomas P. Haugen died at his home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County) Saturday evening, April 10, 1909. His death was due to cirrhosis of the liver, from which he suffered for some time. Mr. Haugen was born in Norway Oct. 14, 1849. He came to this country in 1872, stopping at Black River Falls. In 1874 he came to Neillsville, remaining till 1877, when he went back to Norway, returning here in 1879. In Nov. 1879 he was married to Hannah Anderson, who died Feb. 6, 1903. Deceased was a tailor by trade and followed that work during all the time he lived here, being engaged also in the clothing business for several years with Fred Reitz. The death of his wife six years ago left upon him the care of the family, consisting of ten boys and one girl.

With the assistance of the older boys he kept a home for the family, working hard under difficulties which bore heavily upon him, but which need not be mentioned here.

He was a good hearted man, a good neighbor, a kind father and a workman who gave honest toil for every dollar he took in. The funeral was held Wednesday under the auspices of the Modern Woodmen, of which he was a member.
