Smith Marie (4 Mar 1925 - 1 Augl 2002)

Marie Smith, age 77, formerly of rural Chili, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday at the Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, Minn.

Services will be at Our Father's Church in Marshfield. The Rev. Ron Johnson will officiate. Sharon Menkie will provide music. Interment of ashes will be in the Prairie Valley Cemetery in Raymond, S. D.

Friends May call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hansen Funeral Home in Marshfield and from 1 p.m. until time of servces Monday at the church.

Mrs. Smith was born March 4, 1925, in New Richmond, daughter of the late Francis and Blanch (Jacobs) Lind. Marie's father died when she was a young girl causing her to live with relatives in various locations. She graduated from Raymond High School in South Dakota. Marie was married to George R. Smith upon his return from World War II. They wed on Nov. 6, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minn. George preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1999.

She enjoyed travelling throughout the United States as George's Air Force career continued. In 1961 the couple settled on a farm south of Chili where they lived until moving to Marshfield in 1999. This past winter Marie moved to Winona, Minn.

Marie was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed her family, friends and church. She liked to garden, cook and read. She was a spiritual person who dearly loved her Savior and was an active member of Our Father's House and Immanuel Methodist church in Chili. She served on various committees, taught Sunday School and Bible School and was the church treasurer for many years.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Craig (Joleen) Smith of Minnesota City, Minn., Maury (JoAnn) Smith of Peyton, Colo. and Jim (Jacque) Eldridge of Fort Pierre, S. D.; seven grandchildren, Donna Wolf, Carla Mehloff, Tony Smith, Kelly Jo Bloedel, Matthew Smith, Cory Smith and Jill Smith; sisters, Mary Ellen Kempf of Marysville, Wash. and Harriet York of Milton Freewater, Ore; and one brother, Francis Lind of Umatilla, Ore.
