Marsh, Lewis A. (10 Mar 1854 - 27 Apr 1912)

Lewis A. Marsh died suddenly at Granton, Clark County April 27, 1912. He was at work in his shop and was seized with heart failure and died within a few minutes. He was born March 10, 1854 in Bradford Co., Pa. And came with his parents to the farm at Maple Works, now Granton, in 1857, and has lived there ever since, except two or three years spent at Stevens Point, where he was employed in the shops of the W.C. Railway Co. He followed his trade as a carpenter, but for the past three years his health has been very poor and was not able to work all the time. He was married in 1883 at Melrose, Wis., to Miss Mary B. Johnson, who survives him. He leaves three sons: Lynn, who is in California, Earl in Duluth and Ralph at home, three daughters, Ora, Amy and Theo. He leaves also four brothers and one sister: Jos. C. of Marshfield, Vet of Humbird, Alva B. and Spencer M. of Neillsville and Mrs. John Wright of Granton. No man in the community was more generally respected. In a quiet way he was always ready to help those things that uplift the community. As a member of the school board he took great interest in educational matters and stood for everything that would be best for the people. The funeral was held at the home Monday, Rev. Wilson Mallory preaching the sermon and the funeral being under the auspices of the Free Masons. The large concourse of friends and Masonic brethren who gathered to honor his memory attest the esteem in which he was held.
