Peterson, Mrs. Torger (11 Dec. 1843- 25 Dec. 1921)

*Note the obit starts off by saying it was Mrs. Torger Thompson, but it should be Mrs. Torger Peterson**Just pointing out an error.

Mrs. Torger Thompson died on Christmas morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ole C. Thompson, on Court Street, aged 78 years and 15 days.

Deceased was born at Gulbransdalen, Norway, Dec. 11, 1843. She came to America when 22 years of age and March 3, 1867, was married to *Torger Peterson at Black River Falls. They settled on a farm in Jackson County which was their home till 12 years ago, when they sold the farm and moved to Black River Falls. About a year and a half ago they came here to live with their daughter, as both had grown feeble with age. Shortly after coming here, Mrs. Thompson sustained an injury from a fall and for some time could not walk about, but had grown better. Later she had a slight stroke of apoplexy and grew weaker until the end came.

To her and her husband were born then children, one dying in infancy. Those living are as follows: John Peterson, Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Ole C. Thompson, Neillsville; Henry Peterson on the home farm; Mrs. E. F. Hawkinson, Seattle; Theodore Peterson, Shortville; Mrs. Mark Thompas, Black River Falls; Mrs. Palmer Overlin, Irving; Alexander Peterson, Aberdeen, Wash.; Mrs. Roy Harlson, Black River Falls. Her husband still survives her; she leaves also 18 grandchildren. She was a woman who did well her part in life. She took good care of her home and family and leaves them the example of a life of usefulness and devotion.

The funeral will be held today (Thursday) at the Norwegian Church in the town of Albion, in Jackson County, the church of which she was many years a member.

Does anyone know if the Mrs. E. F. Hawkinson listed in this obit is related to Warren E. Halverson (1942-) of Seattle? Warren E. is grandson of Hannah Martha Hawkinson (1883-1975) and g-grandson of Bernt Andreas (Haagensen) Hawkinson (1853 -1908) born in Trondheim, Norway and died in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
