Nemitz, Gustav (6 Aug. 1903 - 25 Nov. 1922)
Gustav Nemitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Nemitz, died at the home of his parents in this city, early Saturday morning, Nov. 25, aged 19 years, three months and 16 days. Gustav was born in Neillsville August 6, 1903, ad has lived all his life here. About four years ago while playing ball, he received an injury to his face being struck by the ball, which so affected the check bone that after several months cancer developed. He continued his studies in the high school and acted as clerk at the C. C. Sniteman Co. Drug Store and had progressed in his studies into the junior year. Meanwhile that best medical surgical aid was sought for him, both locally and at the Marshfield Hospital and at Rochester, Minn. At times it seemed as if the dread disease was conquered, but it was too deep-seated to be cured. During all this time Gustav remained cheerful and uncomplaining, and even after he knew that his disease was fatal he concealed from his parents and those about him, his own knowledge of what the result must be. No braver, more heroic boy ever lived than he, nor one who met suffering and death with greater courage and cheerfulness.
He leaves to mourn his carly death his parents, five brothers and one sister: Max who lives in Milwaukee, William of North Dakota, Emil in Menasha, Arthur in Milwaukee, and Alfred in California, and Helen who is employed in Milwaukee. All were here to attend the funeral except the brother in California.
The funeral was held Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rev. H. Brandt officiating.
