Payne, Nellie (1839? - Apr 1924)

(Portland, Ore Exchange)

Mrs. Nellie Payne, 84, who had been a guest of the Masonic home at Forest Grove for a number of years, died there last Monday of apoplexy. The funeral was held at the chapel of Edward Holman & Son, Portland, on Thursday morning, with interment in Mount Scott Cemetery beside the grave of her husband, W. S. Payne, who died five years ago. The funeral services were in charge of the Martha Washington chapter of the O. E. S., of which Mrs. Payne was a member. She was also a member of the Evening Star grange.

Mrs. Payne was born in Quebec, Canada, and from there went to Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., where she lived until coming to this vicinity 33 years ago, and where she resided until after the death of her husband.

The surviving relatives of Mrs. Payne are three nieces, Mrs. Nellie Dilley and Mrs. Nettie Hartwig, both of Portland, and Mrs. Rose Bradley of Los Angeles, and a number of grand nieces and nephews of Lents.
