Tracy, Charles H. (27 Jan 1820 - 22 Feb 1908)

Charles H. Tracy, of Appleton, departed this life on Saturday Feb. 22, 1908 and was buried from the M. E. church at Chilton, Wis. Wednesday forenoon of this week. Mr. Tracy lived to the ripe old age of 88 years. He was born in Casselton, Vermont, on January 27, 1820, came to Sheboygan Falls in 1868 with nothing but his hands and carved himself a home in the wilderness where he raised a large family. From there he moved to Chilton where he lived on a farm until a few years ago when he sold the farm and has since lived with his son Jasper at Appleton. Up till a short time ago he was blessed with good health and looked as if he would yet live ten years more. He died at the home of his son, Jasper. Mr. Tracy was a worthy, honest man and always had a good word for his neighbor. He was married in 1849 to Miss Nancy Drew. They had seven children, five boys and two girls, namely: Clarke, who lives three miles northwest of this village, Jasper of Appleton, Oscar of Jim Falls, Frank and Calvin of Antigo, Mrs. W. Otis of Antigo and Mrs. N. H. Waer of Chippewa Falls. His only two sisters who were also well advanced in age died a short time ago, one was Mrs. S. Pease of Neillsville, who died on Feb. 4 being 83 years of age. Mr. Tracy was quite well known in this village having visited here several times during the last few years. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community.
