E. (Edward) R. Wiley a pioneer merchant of Thorp, passed away at his home Tuesday evening, July 13, after a lingering illness. He came to Thorp in 1881 and carried on a general store. He was a member of the county board for many years, both before and after the village was incorporated, and later, until last year, was village treasurer continuously. The funeral will be held Thursday, at 2 o’clock p.m.

11 Oct 1881, Edwin R Wiley (1851–1936) married the Canadian born, Elizabeth Jane Crothers (1854–1930) in Adams, Wisconsin.  They were the parents of three daughters, Effie (b. 1885), Alice b (1891) and their youngest, Estella "Stella" who was born four years later (1895).  All of them were born in Wisconsin.  Effie Married Alfred Kristianson, of Withee, Clark County.  Fred Wigglesworth of Madison and Alice Wileywere married Dec. 1, at home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. Alfred Kristiansen, in Stanley. Stella was united in marriage with Mr. Orin O. Owen of Madison, Wisconsin.
