Leo Hemp

Leo Hemp, age 97, of Neillsville, died Tuesday, June 1, at the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville.

Leo Richard Frank Hemp was born on May 15, 1907 in Globe, the son of Ernest and Augusta (Hagedorn) Hemp. He attended Fairview Country School in Globe. On June 12, 1929 he was united in marriage to Clara Poppe at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Globe. In fact, Leo was baptized, confirmed and married in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. After their marriage they farmed in Globe until 1973, when they retired and moved to town. They lived in Neillsville until 2001 and then moved to the Nursing Home. Leo's passion in life were his horses. He was a long-time member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Globe, and served on their church council. Currently he was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; one daughter, Vivian Bohnsack, of Neillsville; two grandchildren, Joan (Roger) Buchholz, of Neillsville and Karen (Dennis) Radue of Hewitt; five great-grandchildren,. Alan Buchholz, of Neillsville; Candi (Dale) Shirk, of Chili; Laura Buchholz, of Neillsville; Zachariah Radue and Karina Redue, both of Hewitt. Leo is further survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Hemp, of Rochester, Minn. and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Brian Buchholz; three brothers, Paul, Art and John Hemp; two sisters, Elsie Poppe and Clara Mitte and a son-in-law, Lawrence Bohnsack.

A Memorial Service for Leo will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 10, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy Biebert will officiate. Music will be provided by Sharon Nemitz, organist. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m., Thursday, June 10 at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials May be directed to the family for designation at a later date.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Leo's family with funeral arrangements.
