Charles Sanger was born near Breman, Germany on July 24, 1866. He came to America with his parents when he was six years old, and they settled near Granton, Wisconsin on a dairy farm. Mr. Sanger came to South Dakota with a friend, Jim Welch, in about 1887 and worked for farmers near Tulare and Cottonwood Lake by the names of Tubandt, Roebers, Millers, and Tasche for a couple of years.
Charles Sanger was married to Johanna Dora Knoll of February 16, 1890 at Granton, Wisconsin. She was born in Polish (Polnish) Hammer near Berlin, Germany, on November 28, 1866 and came with her only brother Henry, to Granton, Wisconsin at the age of 23 years. Mr. Sanger brought his wife to Linn Township in Hand County, South Dakota.
There they raised their family, six boys and three girls, for the rest of their lives.
Johanna died July, 1933 and Charles died in March of 1944.
