JOHN CHRIST STEFFEN, a Stanley resident for the past ten years, died on June 22, 1952 at Victory Memorial Hospital. Born June 12, 1881 , in St. Joseph (Wisconsin), he spent the early years of his life in Fond du Lac County where he learned the butcher trade.

He was resident of Lindsey for 21 years. He was known to a circle of friends for his special ability as a butcher and operated a market here (Stanley) before illness forced his retirement.

He was married to the former Martha Klapperich at St. Joseph, WI. She survives with six sons; Albert at home, Leo, Walter, and Gilbert of Fond du Lac, Ervin of Marshfield, Elmer of Chili, four daughters; Caroline Schier, Granton, Dorena (Raymond) Canfield, Clam Lake, Agnes (Victor) Hansen, Milwaukee, Elsie (Perry) Taylor (should be Tyler, not Taylor) , Springfield, MO, three brothers; Chris of St. Joseph, WI; Carl of Muenster, Canada, and Adam, of Fond du Lac; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Haensgen of Muenster, Sask., Canada, 21 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

His parents, seven sisters, four brothers, and 5 children preceded him in death.

The body was taken to the Granton Funeral Home Tuesday and services were from the Chili Catholic church with burial in the Town of Lind (should be Lynn, not Lind) Cemetery.
