Bauer, Veronica Lucy (8 March 1898 - 8 March 2004)

COLBY, WIS. - Veronica Bauer, 106, Colby, Wisconsin, died March 8, 2004, at Marshfield Center, where she had resided the past two years.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Funeral Home

COLBY, WIS. - Veronica L. Bauer, 106, died on her birthday, March 8, 2004, at Marshfield Center where she had resided the past two years.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Veronica will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, with Rev. John Malik officiating. Pallbearers will be Dan Blackwood, Mike A. Blackwood, Scott Hoffman, Mike M. Blackwood, Matt Blackwood, and Gordon Schuster. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Colby.

Visitation with family and friends will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Community Funeral Home. There will be a Christian Mother's rosary at 4 p.m., with a parish rosary at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Veronica Lucy Beyerl was born on March 8, 1898, west of Colby on the family farm, one of 14 children of John and Barbara (Windmaisse) Beyerl. She received her early education in Colby and, before her marriage, she worked as a cook at the former Colby Hotel.

Veronica and Alphonse "Al" Bauer were united in marriage on November 27, 1917, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. She was employed as a telephone operator in Colby for 27 years. She resided at her Colby home for 71 years, where she especially enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing, including knitting, crocheting and tatting. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mother's group and the Ladies Order of Catholic Foresters. She also was a member of Colby Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.

Veronica will be missed by her only daughter, Gertrude (Harry) Blackwood of Marshfield; three grandchildren, Daniel (Mary Wampler) Blackwood, Patricia Hoffman, Michael (Judy) Blackwood; six great-grandchildren, Matt Blackwood, Michael Blackwood, Scott Hoffman, Kris Hoffman Weitzel, including two stepgreat-grandchildren, Lisa Olson and Leslie Brown; 10 great-great-grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Hannah, Brennen, Madelyn, Patti, Margaret, Danny, Kai and Brennan; sister-in-law, Margaret Beyerl of Fillmore, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse; 13 brothers and sisters, and grandson-in-law, Dan Hoffman.
