Evelyn was born March 26, 1930, in the town of Frankfort, attending local churches and school. She worked various cooking and waitressing jobs in Fort Atkinson and Chicago before her marriage. On June 1, 1952, Evelyn married Edward Herrmann, and they enjoyed 52 years of a loving relationship. They started a successful dairy farming career in the town of Colby, which they operated until 1974. They then moved to Dorchester for four years, then building their home in the woods that was part of the original farm homestead. She helped with the starting of Herrmann's Sugarbush, which required many long hours of work tapping trees and gathering the sap for cooking. She continued to work for the Colby School District as a cook for 26 years, helping to serve almost 2 million meals to students and teachers.

Evelyn was a lifelong sports fan of the Colby Hornets, Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers. She especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in these events. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading, gardening, traveling and cooking for family events and church gatherings.

She was preceded in death by one son, Edward Jr., in infancy; parents, Carl and Ida Dorfschmidt; three sisters, Helen Rodman, Esther Bennett and Augusta Thielig; and one brother, Raymond Dorfschmidt. She is survived by her husband, Edward Herrmann of Colby; two sons, Allan Herrmann (Jeri Shepherd) of Colby and Scott Herrmann of Colby; one daughter, Penny (Gary) Searer of Owen; three grandchildren, Mindy, Mitchel and Ryan Searer; and one brother, Edward Dorfschmidt.

The family has granted her wishes in cremation, and request memorial donations be sent to the Muscular Dystrophy Association for research on this disease that afflicted her and son, Scott, and other family members. Evelyn was a good mother, wife, sister and friend who will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
