Weirick, Ada Lucinda (26 July 1914 - 1 Oct. 1999)

Ada Weirick, age 85, of Arpin, Wis., formerly of Neillsville, Granton, and Marshfield, Wis., died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Ada Lucinda Weirick was born on July 26, 1914 in Sullivan, Ill., the daughter of William and Mary Eva (Garette) Williamson. She graduated from High School in Sullivan in 1931 and then was united in marriage to Vayne Garette on Nov. 6, 1933 in Missouri. During the early stages of World War II Vayne contracted a disease at Guadalcanal and then died on the island of New Caledonia. Ada moved to Washington, D. C., during the war and worked as a key-punch operator. She later moved to Chicago where she met Wilbur Weirick. They married on Nov. 24, 1948 in Chicago. In 1949 They moved to North Brook, Ill., a suburb of Chicago where they resided until moving to the Neillsville area in March of 1957. They farmed in Shortville and Ada began working at the Neillsville Bank as a bookkeeper. She retired from the bank in 1976 after 16 years of service. Wilbur died in June of 1978 at the age of 63. Ada sold the farm in 1979 and moved to Granton, where she lived for three years. She then moved to Marshfield and two years ago moved to the Nursing Home in Arpin. Ada loved playing bingo and she would play it as often as possible.

She is survived by her children, Maurine LaReaux of Chicago, Ill., Bob (Elaine) Garette of McHenry, Ill., William (Darlene) Weirick of Eagle River , Wis., and Allen Weirick of Granton, Wis.; twelve grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her close friends, Edison and Anita Mathis.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Vayne and Wilber, a son, Ronald; a grandson Brain Weirick and infant twin sister and sister, Violet Brown.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday Oct. 5, 1999 at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Reverend James Gordon of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville officiated. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday and from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home.
