Evelyn Grottke, age 77, of Neillsville, died Thursday, May 18 in the Critical Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Evelyn Hildegard Grottke was born on July 22, 1922 in Globe, WI., and daughter of Albert and Mary (Hoffman) Kalsow. She attended the Globe Grad School and also schools in Milwaukee and St. John’s Lutheran School in Neillsville before graduating from the Neillsville High School in 1941. After graduation she worked at the Neillsville Dairy. She was united in marriage to Walter Grottke on April 21, 1946 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville by Reverend William Bauman. Evelyn worked for many years at the Ben Franklin Store in Neillsville until ill-health forced her to retire in 1994. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Vicki (Patrick) Bauer of Walker, MN; two grandchildren, P. J. and Tiffani Bauer of Walker, MN; and two sisters, Fala Gloff of Marshfield, and Leona Sternitzky of Neillsville.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, an infant daughter, Sally Jean Grottke; one sister, Gertrude Kalso; and one brother Victor Kalsow.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 22, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timohty Biebert officiated. Music was provided by Judy Trunkel, organist and congregational singing. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday night and Monday at the Church.

Casket bearers were: Roger Grottke, Ronald Kalsow; Donald Nicke, Allen Sternitzky, Gary Sternitzky and Jon Sternitzky.

The Gesche Funeral Home assisted the Evelyn’s family with arrangements.
