Henson, John R. (11 Feb. 1932 -13 Oct. 1998)

John R. Henson, age 66, W8321 Popple River Rd., Greenwood, Wis., (town of Mead) died at 12 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998 at the Hospice Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital . He was admitted to the hospital Oct. 4, 1998.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, 1998 at Missionary Baptist Church, Greenwood, Wis., with Pastor David P. Sommerfeld officiating. The body lay in state at Missionary Baptist Church from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday and then at the church after 10 a.m. on Monday. Susan Stiemann was organist for Roxanne Henson, soloist. Pallbearers were Earl Richardson, Cliff Thorson, DeWayne Parent, Chris baker, Herb Horn and Dick Hallin. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Town of Warner, Clark Co., Wis.

John R. Henson was born Feb. 11, 1932 at Gardner, Ill., the son of John R. and Vivian (Nelson) Henson. He married Sharon Caspardo Scheffler on June 24, 1980 at Bloomingdale, Ill. He received his education at Gardner, Ill., and Chicago schools. He was a graduate of High School in Chicago.

After his high school education, he attended a technical college in Chicago and became a pipe fitter. He worked as pipe fitter throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. He accepted Christ and was baptized April 1, 1945 at the First Baptist Church at Glendale Heights, Ill., where he served as an officer, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and bus driver for that church. He was active as a Boy Scout Leader and after moving to Greenwood was an active member of the church. He was a member of Missionary Baptist Church, Greenwood, and the Pipefitter Union Local 597.

John is survived by his wife, his children: Raymond (Joyce) Henson, McHenry, Ill., Randy (Debbie) Henson, Rockford, Ill., Ronald (Roxanne) Henson, Bolingbrook, Ill, Russell (Jennifer) Henson, Wheaton, Ill., Ruth Henning, West Chicago, Ill., Kim (Kenneth) Kilty, Marshfield, Wis., Diane Tirado, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, David (Vicki) Scheffler, Greenwood, Wis., 15 grandchildren: Meredith Fish, Richard Henson, Jennifer, Rhonda, Ronald and Remminagton Henson, Annette, Andrea and Ashley Henning, Nathan Henson, Katelyn Kilty, Julie and Laura Tirado, John and Jason Scheffler; two great-grandchildren: William and Tyler Fish.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Henson, and one sister, Patricia Christoffel, and his parents.

Memorials May be designated to the Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood, Wis.

Hansen Funeral Home, Marshfield assisted the family with arrangements.
