Edward G.Purkis

Passes Away Funeral rites were conducted Sunday afternoon for Edward George Purkis, 83 who died of a cerebal hemorrhage Wednesday evening, Feburary 19, (1947) at St. Joesph's Hospital, Marshfield. Rev. J. A. Olson conducted the 1:30 o'clock service at the Purkis home and the 2 o'clock service at the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Internment was made in the Colby cemetery.

Mr. Purkis was born at South Hampton, England,was educated there,and was married at Spencer in 1886 to Laura Gregerson. They observed tier Golden wedding in 1936. For the past 17 years Mr. and Mrs. Purkis resided at Unity.

He was the town clerk for 33 years, Justice of the Peace 17 years, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge, and was the past Noble Grand.

Surviving are his widow; three sons, Ed. Purkis Jr., Oak Park, Ill.; Frank Purkis, Lisle, Ill; and Clyde Purkis, Unity; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-granchildren.

William Purkis, Unity and Mrs. Bessie Jacobson, Milwaukee, prceded their father in death.

Among the out of town people who attended the funeral were Mr.and Mrs. Ed. Purkis Arnold and Orland Purkis,Mr. and Mrs.Claude Purkis of Oak Park Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Purkis, Floyde Purkis, Mrs. Tim Curtain and Mr. and Mrs.Frank Willmore of Lisle Ill. Jake Jacobson and sons Gordon and Bill,Mr. and Mrs. Vance Waga, Mrs.Wilma Prasser and daughter of Cudahy; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Antholine of Milwaukee; Mrs.Hannah Knutson and son Ernest, Athens; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Runge,Auburndale; Miss Eva Kulk,Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Salter, Herman Martins, Marshfield; Mr.and Mrs. W. J. Kockner of Wausau; Ed(name unreadabel Wi????nd) And Claud Whitney of Colby.

CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our thanks to the many friends for their kind assistance and sympathy in our recent bereavement. Especially do we thank Rev. J. A. OLson,the choir, the Odd Fellows and Rehebaks, donors of flowers, the use of the Lutheran Church Parlors and all who assisted us in so many acts of kindness.
