Hales, Joyce (11 AUG 1915 - 4 OCT 2004)

Joyce Hales, 89, Sun City West, Ariz., died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in Scottsdale, Ariz. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 15, at the United Methodist Church, Loyal.

Joyce Erickson was born Aug. 11, 1915, in Arpin, to George and Alma Erickson. She was raised in Greenwood. She married Myrtle Hales in August of 1933, in Loyal. They began their married life in Neillsville and moved to Loyal in 1940, where he worked in the bank. She was active in the United Methodist Women, and in 1945, served as worthy matron of the local Eastern Star. In 1955, they moved to Manawa, where he served as president of the Farmers State Bank until his retirement in 1977. In Manawa, she entertained U.S. senators, congressmen and federal reserve dignitaries before, during and after her husband’s term as president of the Wisconsin Bankers Association. In 1978, they became permanent residents of Sun City West, Ariz., which they used as their base camp to travel the world for the next 20 years. She continued to be active in her church and volunteered at a Sun City hospital.

Survivors include three daughters, Darlene Wallschlager, Hartland, Nan Jean Weihmuller, Sun City, Ariz., and Mary Jo Salone, Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverly Denk, Greenwood; and one brother, Garth Haeuser, Payson, Ariz.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Myrle, in March of 2001; and her sister, Audrey Kehrberg.
