Richard Laube

Richard L. Laube, 71, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, with his wife and family at his side after a valiant and courageous battle against cancer. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen. The Revs. Eric Linzmaier and Al Jakubowski will officiate.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Maurina Funeral Home, Owen, with a parish prayer service at 8 p.m.

The youngest of four children, Dick was born June 2, 1933, to Henry and Minnie (Franz) Laube in Owen. He married Harriet Marie Plummer on Sept. 7, 1954. They owned and operated a 300-acre dairy farm south of town for 30 years. They retired and moved to the city of Owen in 1992. A lifelong Owen resident, Dick was a pillar of the community and very active in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Owen-Withee Lions Club, Owen Young Farmers, a member of the Board of Directors of Boyd Farmers Union Cenex Cooperative, River Country Cooperative of Clark/Chippewa County, Owen-Withee Bowmans Club, Owen-Withee Rod and Gun Club, Owen-Withee Development Corporation and an associate of the Owen-Curtiss Bank Board. He was a 4-H project leader and a member of the Clark County 4-H Leaders Federation Board. Dick, who was an excellent athlete himself, enjoyed following his sons careers in high school and college. He continued to be an avid Blackhawk sports fan, and you would find him attending many of the sporting events. He enjoyed going on hunting and fishing trips with his sons and friends. His favorite times were spent with family and friends at his cabin on Lake Holcombe. Recently, he enjoyed building a log hunting cabin with his sons.

Dick is survived by his wife of 50 years, Harriet Laube of Owen. They were blessed with four sons, Terry (Cathy) Laube of Owen, Jeff (Janelle) Laube of Eau Claire, Keith (Sara) Laube of Eau Claire and Dean (Penny) Laube of Fall Creek; 11 grandchildren, Jason, Ryan and Lindsey of Owen, Kaitie, Jenna, Mikaelah and Ben of Eau Claire, Taylor and Olivia of Eau Claire and Travis and Brock of Fall Creek; two sisters, Edna (Virgil) Bublitz and Berniece (Edward) Potocnik, all of Owen; one brother, Harold (Fern) Laube of Owen; and many nieces, nephews and many close friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
