Babbe, Fred (11 March 1868 - 1* Dec. 1931) * Could be off

This community received a san shock Tuesday afternoon on learning that Fred Babbe had shot himself during his wife’s absence. She had gone up town to do some shopping and on her return found him dead. He had sat down on the bed and used a 22 pistol. Mr. Babbe had been in ill health for some time and was very much depressed frequently over his condition.

He was born in Germany, March 11, 1868, and came to this country when 15 years of age. He lived for a number of years in the town of Jackson, Adams county and also at Melvina, Monroe county. The family came to Clark county in 1915, Mr. Babbe buying a farm in the town of Weston. He and his wife spent one or two winters in Florida.

Mr. Babbe was an excellent farmer, honest, upright and thrifty. He was a kind husband and father and a good citizen in every way.

He leaves his wife and six children: Eleanor, Mrs. Ray Algra of Melvina,; Frieda, Mrs. A. C. Brackett of Davenport, Ia.; Matilda, Mrs. E. A. Davey of Monroe, N. Y.; Gertrude, Mrs. D. A. Lenzen of Minneapolis; Fred of Chicago and Carl at home.

Brief funeral services will be held at the Schiller funeral Home Saturday at 10 o’clock a.m. Burial will take place at Melvina.
