Colby, Margaret L. (8 JUN 1916 - 19 NOV 2004)

Margaret L. Colby, 88, Stevens Point, formerly of Greenwood, died on Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Portage County Health Care Center, Stevens Point, where she had resided since 2003. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Margery Louise Erwin was born June 8, 1916, in Clark County, to Wilbur and Frances [nee Hoffman] Erwin. She attended school in the Loyal area and graduated from Loyal High School in 1934. She married Raymond "Jack" Colby in October of 1935. They later divorced. She attended beauty school in Eau Claire in 1939-1940. She worked in a beauty shop for Della Frinoch in Thorp and later for Sophie Beseler in Marshfield. In 1944, she established her own beauty shop in Greenwood and she truly enjoyed working with all her customers in Greenwood. She owned and operated Marge’s Beauty Shop until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Society. She moved to Stevens Point in 2002, to live with her daughter, Joan Gilles.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Zimmer, Greenwood, and Joan Gilles, Stevens Point; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Victor Erwin; her ex-husband; and two grandsons, Brian Gilles and Michael Zimmer.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
